The area covers part of the East Coast Main Line from Northallerton in the South to Chester-le-Street in the North with a few miles of the following branches: Saltburn , Bishop Auckland, and Stillington (Norton).

The track layout, signal numbers, distances and line speeds are taken from the National Sectional Appendices of Network Rail, as well as from https://www.opentraintimes.com/maps. I have tried to remain as realistic as possible but some of the freight yards that are in reality controlled manually received shunt signals.

The timetable is a full 24-hour one with passenger, freight and departmental services. It is based on a Tuesday in April 2022. Of note is that diverted Caledonian sleeper trains of ScotRail are featured in this timetable due to engineering works on the West coast Main Line. To make the first few (otherwise quiet) hours more exciting I included some fictional freight services with some shunting movements.

This is a simulation that can easily be managed single handedly.
